The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is a globally recognized English language test that has been in operation for over 25 years. It is renowned for assessing proficiency in all four language skills. IELTS sets the benchmark for English language testing and is accepted by more than 9,000 organizations worldwide. With over 2.2 million tests taken globally last year, IELTS remains a trusted, secure, and reliable indicator of real-life English communication abilities for purposes such as education, immigration, and professional accreditation. It is jointly owned by the British Council, IDP: IELTS Australia, and Cambridge English Language Assessment, with a presence in over 140 countries through a network of over 1,000 test centers.


Who is IELTS for?

IELTS is recognized by universities, employers, professional bodies, immigration authorities, and government agencies in numerous countries, including Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, the UK, and the USA. Each year, more than 1.4 million individuals take the test to demonstrate their English language proficiency.

What is the IELTS test like? The IELTS test offers two versions: Academic and General Training. Both versions include sections on Listening and Speaking, which are the same for all candidates. The test assesses candidates across multiple proficiency levels, providing scores ranging from 1 to 9. Half scores, such as 6.5, are also possible. Many universities require an IELTS score of 6 or 7, and some may specify minimum scores for each of the four sections.

IELTS tests are conducted at accredited Test Centres worldwide, with over 500 Centres currently available in more than 120 countries.


When can the test be taken?

Arrangements for taking the IELTS test can be made with the nearest Test Centre. Test dates are frequently available, often scheduled on Saturdays.


How much does it cost to take IELTS?

Fees for the IELTS test are determined by individual test centers and vary across countries. In Nepal, for example, the cost of taking IELTS is NPR 20,500.
